This combination therapy is an exploratory regimen developed by Harbin Medical University for the treatment of advanced triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). It consists of camrelizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting the PD-1 checkpoint; pirfenidone, a small molecule anti-fibrotic agent; and investigator's choice of chemotherapy (typically paclitaxel or capecitabine). The rationale for this triple combination is to utilize pirfenidone to modulate the tumor microenvironment by reducing stromal fibrosis and collagen deposition, which may enhance the infiltration and efficacy of camrelizumab-mediated immunotherapy and cytotoxic chemotherapy in the typically dense stroma of TNBC tumors.
