Camrelizumab is a selective, humanized IgG4-kappa monoclonal antibody targeting the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor. Developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Medicine, it acts as an immune checkpoint inhibitor, preventing the interaction between PD-1 and its ligands (PD-L1 and PD-L2) to restore T-cell anti-tumor activity. In the context of locally advanced, unresectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), camrelizumab is being evaluated in combination with definitive radiation therapy (typically 50-60 Gy). This combination aims to leverage the synergistic effects of radiotherapy-induced immunogenic cell death and PD-1 blockade to improve local control and systemic response in patients who are not candidates for surgery.
