Overview

Camrelizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed death-1 (PD-1) receptor on immune cells. By blocking PD-1, it prevents its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2 ligands expressed on tumor cells, thereby enhancing T cell-mediated immune responses against cancer. Camrelizumab is primarily developed for various cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. It is approved in China under the brand name AiRuiKa but not yet approved in the United States[2][3][5]. When combined with apatinib—a small molecule inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2)—the regimen leverages both immune checkpoint inhibition and antiangiogenic effects to enhance antitumor activity. Clinical studies have shown that this combination has manageable toxicity and promising efficacy in advanced primary liver cancer (PLC), esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and other solid tumors[6][7]. The "SOX" regimen refers to a chemotherapy combination of S-1 (an oral fluoropyrimidine derivative) plus oxaliplatin; when used with camrelizumab it represents an investigational multi-agent therapy for gastrointestinal cancers.
