Overview

CAN-2409 + valacyclovir + acyclovir is a combination therapy consisting of a non-replicating adenovirus vector (CAN-2409) that delivers the herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase gene to tumor cells, used together with the antiviral drugs valacyclovir or acyclovir. When the adenovirus introduces the thymidine kinase gene into tumor cells, this enzyme phosphorylates the antiviral drugs, converting them into toxic compounds that are incorporated into the DNA of dividing cells. This process causes immunogenic cell death of tumor cells and triggers a robust immune response. The therapy has shown promising results in clinical trials for prostate cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.
