Overview

This is a combination of two medications used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Canagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that works by preventing the kidneys from reabsorbing glucose, leading to increased glucose excretion in urine. Dulaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist that increases insulin secretion, decreases glucagon secretion, and delays gastric emptying. Both medications can be used as adjuncts to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Additionally, both have cardiovascular benefits - canagliflozin is approved to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes and established cardiovascular disease, while dulaglutide is indicated to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.
