Overview

**Canagliflozin + glyburide** is an oral combination of two small-molecule drugs used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Canagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that decreases renal glucose reabsorption, increasing urinary glucose excretion and thereby lowering blood sugar levels. Glyburide is a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells, thus reducing blood glucose. The combination targets hyperglycemia through complementary mechanisms—canagliflozin acts independently of insulin, while glyburide increases insulin secretion. Both drugs may be prescribed together, but there is no evidence of a fixed-dose combination formulation of canagliflozin + glyburide marketed under a unique brand name; clinical practice may involve using both medications concomitantly in appropriate patients when dual glycemic control is desired, particularly when monotherapy is insufficient[1][2][6].
