Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Candesartan + metoprolol is a combination of two antihypertensive agents used together to manage high blood pressure and heart failure. Candesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the type-1 angiotensin II receptor (AT1), inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, which leads to decreased blood pressure[8]. Metoprolol is a beta-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist (beta-blocker) that reduces cardiac output by decreasing heart rate and contractility, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing myocardial oxygen demand[4]. This combination targets different mechanisms in cardiovascular regulation, providing additive or synergistic effects for conditions such as hypertension and heart failure[2][5].
