Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SPC3001, marketed under the brand name Candeam, is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) antihypertensive therapy developed by Shin Poong Pharmaceutical. It combines candesartan cilexetil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), with amlodipine besylate, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB). Candesartan cilexetil is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to its active form, candesartan, which selectively antagonizes the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor, thereby inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. Amlodipine besylate inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to systemic vasodilation. This combination provides synergistic blood pressure reduction and was approved in South Korea in 2016. In clinical development, SPC3001 has served as a dual-therapy comparator in Phase 2 trials for Shin Poong's triple fixed-dose combination, SPC1001 (candesartan/amlodipine/indapamide).
