This small molecule combination leverages CBD's activity on cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) alongside the corticosteroid's action on the glucocorticoid receptor to produce super-additive anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. The primary goal of this approach is to serve as a steroid-sparing agent, allowing for reduced corticosteroid dosages and thereby minimizing the adverse effects associated with long-term or high-dose steroid use. While the company is pursuing a veterinary-first strategy (e.g., for canine inflammatory bowel disease), it is also advancing the program toward human Phase III clinical development for various inflammatory disorders.
