Overview
cannabidiol + delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol is an investigational phytocannabinoid combination being evaluated by City of Hope Medical Center for the treatment of chronic chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). The treatment regimen, currently in a pilot clinical trial, assesses the efficacy of plant-derived cannabidiol (CBD) both as a monotherapy and in combination with delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-8-THC). These small molecule compounds are administered orally and are hypothesized to alleviate neuropathic symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling by modulating the endocannabinoid system through cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, as well as potentially interacting with the 5-HT1A serotonergic receptor. The study specifically targets cancer survivors, including those treated for breast and colon cancer, who experience persistent neuropathy following chemotherapy.
