cannabidiol + morphine sulfate is an investigational drug combination being evaluated by Wayne State University for its potential opioid-sparing effects in the management of chronic pain. The combination consists of smoked cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive cannabinoid derived from the *Cannabis sativa* plant, and oral morphine sulfate, a potent opioid analgesic. CBD is thought to modulate the endocannabinoid system and interact with various non-cannabinoid receptors, such as 5-HT1A and GPR55, which may influence pain signaling and the rewarding properties of opioids. Morphine acts primarily as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptor to provide analgesia. The Phase 1 human laboratory study (CMP) aims to determine if CBD can enhance morphine's analgesic efficacy or reduce its side effect profile, potentially offering a novel therapeutic strategy to decrease opioid reliance.
