Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cannabis extract (THC) is a standardized botanical extract derived from the flowers of the *Cannabis sativa* plant, characterized by a high concentration of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It acts primarily as a partial agonist at the cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors, which are key components of the endocannabinoid system. CB1 receptors are densely expressed in the central nervous system and mediate the psychoactive, analgesic, and antiemetic effects of THC, while CB2 receptors are primarily located on immune cells and modulate inflammatory responses. Cannabis extract (THC) is utilized and investigated for various therapeutic indications, including the management of chronic pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), multiple sclerosis-associated spasticity, and appetite stimulation in cachexia.
