capecitabine + Chinese Traditional Medicine

Capecitabine + Chinese Traditional Medicine is a combination treatment regimen being investigated as a maintenance therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The regimen consists of **capecitabine**, an oral fluoropyrimidine prodrug, administered at a continuously low ('metronomic') dose, combined with individualized **Chinese Traditional Medicine (TCM)** determined by traditional diagnosis. Capecitabine is converted in the body to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which inhibits thymidylate synthase, thereby blocking DNA synthesis and cell proliferation. The metronomic dosing schedule is intended to exert anti-angiogenic effects and modulate the immune system with reduced toxicity compared to standard high-dose chemotherapy. The TCM component is individualized to improve quality of life and potentially enhance the anti-tumor efficacy of the chemotherapy. This strategy is primarily being evaluated by Ruijin Hospital in patients who have achieved disease control after standard first-line chemotherapy.
