Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three agents—capecitabine, epirubicin, and paclitaxel—used primarily in the treatment of advanced or metastatic cancers, particularly gastric (stomach) cancer and breast cancer. - Capecitabine is an oral prodrug that is converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in tumor tissue, where it inhibits DNA synthesis by blocking thymidylate synthase and also interferes with RNA function[1][6]. - Epirubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA, inhibiting topoisomerase II activity and generating free radicals that cause cytotoxicity. - Paclitaxel is a taxane that stabilizes microtubules and prevents their depolymerization during cell division, thereby inhibiting mitosis[2]. The combination leverages distinct mechanisms of action to maximize antitumor efficacy. This regimen has been investigated in clinical trials for advanced gastric cancer as well as for breast cancer refractory to other treatments[2][5].
