Overview

A combination therapy consisting of capecitabine, lapatinib, and octreotide. Lapatinib is an oral, reversible, dual inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor ErbB1 (EGFR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 ErbB2 (HER2). Capecitabine is an oral chemotherapy drug that is converted to 5-fluorouracil in the body. Octreotide LAR (long-acting formulation) is added as a prophylactic treatment to prevent or reduce diarrhea, which is a common side effect of the lapatinib-capecitabine combination. This regimen is used for patients with HER2-positive advanced or metastatic breast cancer who have received prior therapy including an anthracycline, a taxane, and trastuzumab.
