Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Capecitabine + paclitaxel is a chemotherapy combination regimen used primarily for treating metastatic breast cancer. Capecitabine is an oral fluoropyrimidine carbamate prodrug that is enzymatically converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) preferentially in tumor tissues. Paclitaxel is a taxane that stabilizes microtubules, preventing cell division. The combination is particularly effective because paclitaxel upregulates thymidine phosphorylase, which enhances the conversion of capecitabine to its active form.
