Overview

Capecitabine + pirarubicin (AX regimen) is a combination chemotherapy used primarily as adjuvant treatment for breast cancer. Capecitabine is an oral fluoropyrimidine prodrug that is converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) by enzymes expressed in higher concentrations in tumor tissues. Pirarubicin is an anthracycline that interferes with DNA synthesis. This combination has shown efficacy comparable to the AC regimen (pirarubicin and cyclophosphamide) in node-negative breast cancer patients, with fewer severe toxicities and better quality of life outcomes.
