Overview

A combination therapy consisting of capecitabine, an oral chemotherapeutic agent that produces objective response rates of up to 25% in anthracycline-treated, taxane-resistant metastatic breast cancer. Capecitabine is a prodrug that is converted to 5-fluorouracil in the body. Tipifarnib is a farnesyltransferase inhibitor that works by inhibiting Ras signaling pathways. This combination was studied in clinical trials for metastatic breast cancer (MBC) in patients who were previously treated with anthracycline and had progressed on taxane therapy.
