Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Captopril + furosemide is a combination of an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor and a loop diuretic used to treat hypertension and heart failure. Captopril works by inhibiting the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, reducing vasoconstriction and blood pressure. Furosemide acts on the kidneys by inhibiting sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporters in the ascending loop of Henle, increasing water and electrolyte excretion. The combination provides additive blood pressure lowering effects but requires careful monitoring due to increased risks of renal failure and hypotension.
