Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Captopril + hydrochlorothiazide** is an oral fixed-dose antihypertensive combination containing captopril, a competitive angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, and hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic. Captopril reduces formation of angiotensin II and aldosterone-mediated vasoconstriction and sodium retention, while hydrochlorothiazide promotes renal sodium and water excretion through inhibition of the distal-tubule sodium-chloride cotransporter. The complementary mechanisms produce additive blood-pressure lowering and the combination is approved for treatment of hypertension.
