Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CAR Liposomes is an investigational inhalable combination therapy developed by Vascular BioSciences for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), with potential applications in sepsis and COVID-19. The drug utilizes a targeted liposomal delivery system where the liposomes are modified with the CAR peptide (CARSKNKDC), a cyclic homing peptide that selectively targets diseased pulmonary vascular endothelium. The liposomes encapsulate two active ingredients: fasudil, a Rho-kinase (ROCK) inhibitor, and DETA NONOate, a long-acting nitric oxide (NO) donor. This dual-action approach modulates both the RhoA/ROCK and NO pathways specifically within diseased lung tissue, aiming to induce selective pulmonary vasodilation, reduce mean pulmonary arterial pressure, and reverse vascular remodeling while minimizing systemic side effects like hypotension.
