Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Carbasalate calcium is a water-soluble complex of calcium acetylsalicylate and urea that provides acetylsalicylic acid activity. It is an oral salicylate antiplatelet agent: acetylsalicylic acid irreversibly acetylates platelet cyclooxygenase-1, suppressing thromboxane A2 production and thereby reducing platelet aggregation for prevention of arterial thrombotic events. Higher-dose products may also be used for analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Dutch products include Ascal formulations, including 100 mg antiplatelet formulations equivalent to approximately 78.6 mg acetylsalicylic acid.
