Overview

This is a combination of three drugs: - **Carbidopa** is a peripheral dopa decarboxylase inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of levodopa before it reaches the brain, thereby increasing its effectiveness and reducing side effects such as nausea. - **Levodopa** is a precursor to dopamine that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine in the brain, helping to alleviate motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease. - **Celecoxib** is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain and inflammation. The rationale for combining these agents would be to treat both motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (with carbidopa/levodopa) and associated pain or inflammation (with celecoxib). Preclinical studies suggest potential synergistic effects on pain management in parkinsonian models[6]. Celecoxib has also been investigated as an adjuvant therapy in patients with Parkinson’s disease treated with conventional regimens[1].
