This is a combination therapy consisting of carbogen (a medical gas mixture of oxygen and carbon dioxide), nicotinamide (a form of vitamin B3), and nimustine (a nitrosourea alkylating agent). The combination has been investigated as an adjunct to radiotherapy in the treatment of certain cancers, particularly to overcome tumor hypoxia. Carbogen increases tissue oxygenation, potentially enhancing the effectiveness of radiation therapy. Nicotinamide acts as a radiosensitizer by improving tumor blood flow and reducing hypoxia. Nimustine is an alkylating antineoplastic agent that interferes with DNA function by alkylating and cross-linking DNA strands, leading to cell death. This multi-modal approach aims to improve cancer cell kill rates during radiotherapy[1][2][4][5][6][10].
