Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three alkylating agents—carboplatin, carmustine (also known as BCNU), and cyclophosphamide. Each drug interferes with DNA replication and transcription by forming DNA crosslinks or causing DNA damage, leading to cell death. This combination is used in high-dose chemotherapy protocols, often as conditioning therapy prior to autologous stem cell transplantation for hematologic malignancies such as Hodgkin's disease and certain lymphomas. The regimen leverages the synergistic cytotoxic effects of these agents to overcome resistance seen with conventional therapies.
