Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three antineoplastic agents—carboplatin, carmustine, and teniposide. Each drug has a distinct mechanism of action targeting cancer cells: - **Carboplatin** is an organoplatinum alkylating agent that forms DNA crosslinks, inhibiting DNA synthesis and function. - **Carmustine** (also known as BCNU) is a nitrosourea alkylating agent that causes interstrand DNA crosslinking and inhibits both DNA and RNA synthesis. - **Teniposide** (VM26) is a topoisomerase II inhibitor that prevents the religation of double-stranded breaks in DNA during replication. This combination has been studied primarily for the treatment of glioblastoma, often in conjunction with radiotherapy. The regimen aims to maximize cytotoxic effects on tumor cells by using drugs with complementary mechanisms. Clinical studies have shown this approach can yield survival outcomes comparable to or better than single-agent therapies or other combinations in high-grade gliomas[1][2][3].
