Overview

Carboplatin + cetuximab is a combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of recurrent or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). This regimen combines a platinum-based chemotherapeutic agent (carboplatin) with a monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (cetuximab). The combination was approved by the FDA in 2011 for first-line treatment of patients with recurrent locoregional or metastatic SCCHN. Clinical trials demonstrated significant improvements in overall survival and progression-free survival compared to chemotherapy alone.
