The combination of carboplatin and durvalumab is used in the treatment of certain cancers, notably as a first-line therapy for advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer (specifically mismatch repair deficient), extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC), and other malignancies. Carboplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapy agent that forms DNA crosslinks, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Durvalumab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor monoclonal antibody targeting programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), which blocks the interaction between PD-L1 and its receptors PD-1 and CD80, thereby countering tumor immune evasion mechanisms[6][7][2]. This combination leverages both cytotoxic chemotherapy effects and immune system activation to improve clinical outcomes.
