This is a combination therapy consisting of three agents: - **Carboplatin** (a platinum-based alkylating agent) - **Gemcitabine** (a nucleoside analog antimetabolite) - **Vitamin C** (ascorbic acid, administered intravenously) Carboplatin and gemcitabine are established chemotherapy drugs used together in various cancers under the regimen known as "GemCarbo." Both act by interfering with DNA synthesis or function in rapidly dividing cells. Carboplatin forms DNA crosslinks leading to apoptosis, while gemcitabine inhibits DNA synthesis by acting as a false nucleotide. Vitamin C is being investigated for its potential to enhance the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy. Preclinical studies suggest that high-dose intravenous vitamin C may increase oxidative stress within tumor cells, potentially sensitizing them to chemotherapeutic agents. Early clinical trials and retrospective studies have explored this triple combination in advanced cancers such as triple-negative breast cancer and other solid tumors[2][4][10].
