Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of carboplatin (a platinum-based chemotherapy agent), ipilimumab (an anti-CTLA-4 monoclonal antibody immunotherapy), and paclitaxel (a taxane chemotherapy agent). The combination works through multiple mechanisms: paclitaxel and carboplatin directly kill cancer cells while also potentially releasing tumor-specific antigens that can initiate T-cell activation, while ipilimumab blocks CTLA-4 to potentiate an antitumor immune response. This combination has been studied in various administration schedules, with the "phased" regimen (chemotherapy first, followed by chemotherapy plus ipilimumab) showing better efficacy than concurrent administration in some studies.
