Overview

A combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of carboplatin, irinotecan, and thalidomide. This regimen has been investigated in phase II clinical trials for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). The combination was designed with the hypothesis that thalidomide, an anti-angiogenic agent, would improve the response and toxicity profile of chemotherapy with carboplatin and irinotecan. In clinical trials, the regimen demonstrated tolerability with reversible neutropenia as the major toxicity and only minor diarrhea, which is notable since diarrhea is typically a significant concern with irinotecan-based treatments.
