Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three cytotoxic agents—carboplatin, mitomycin C, and vinblastine. It is primarily used in the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), especially for patients who are inoperable or have relapsed after surgery. The regimen was developed as an alternative to the more commonly used MVP (mitomycin C, vinblastine, cisplatin) protocol by substituting carboplatin for cisplatin to reduce toxicity and facilitate outpatient administration. Carboplatin is a platinum-based compound that causes DNA crosslinking and inhibits DNA synthesis; mitomycin C acts as an alkylating agent causing DNA damage; and vinblastine disrupts microtubule formation during cell division. This combination has demonstrated similar efficacy to MVP with improved tolerability and ease of administration in outpatient settings[1][2][3].
