Overview

This combination chemotherapy regimen consists of carboplatin and non-pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (Myocet®). It was specifically developed and evaluated by the ARCAGY-GINECO GROUP in the MYCA trial for the treatment of patients with platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer. Carboplatin is a platinum-based alkylating agent that forms DNA cross-links, interfering with DNA repair and synthesis. Myocet is a non-pegylated liposomal formulation of doxorubicin, an anthracycline that inhibits topoisomerase II and intercalates into DNA to induce cell death. The liposomal delivery system is designed to optimize the distribution of doxorubicin to tumor sites while minimizing toxicity to healthy tissues, particularly cardiotoxicity. This regimen was investigated as a viable alternative to the standard pegylated liposomal doxorubicin-carboplatin combination during global shortages of pegylated liposomal doxorubicin.
