A three-drug anticancer regimen combining the platinum agent carboplatin, the taxane paclitaxel delivered as an albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation (nab-paclitaxel, brand Abraxane), and the anti-angiogenic monoclonal antibody bevacizumab. Nab-paclitaxel stabilizes microtubules to inhibit mitosis; albumin-mediated transport can enhance paclitaxel delivery and avoids Cremophor solvent reactions. Carboplatin forms DNA crosslinks causing apoptosis. Bevacizumab binds vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) to inhibit tumor angiogenesis. This combination has been studied as first-line therapy in advanced non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer, showing promising response rates and manageable toxicity in phase II and I/II studies, and is used in protocols across tumor types where bevacizumab with platinum-taxane backbones are appropriate.[2][1][3][6]
