Overview

Carboplatin + vinorelbine is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two small molecule cytotoxic agents, carboplatin and vinorelbine. Carboplatin is a platinum-based compound that induces DNA crosslinking, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Vinorelbine is a semi-synthetic vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule assembly by binding to tubulin, thereby arresting cell division at metaphase. This combination is primarily used as first-line or palliative therapy for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), including both locally advanced and metastatic disease, as well as in some cases of extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). The regimen can be administered with intravenous or oral formulations of vinorelbine alongside intravenous carboplatin. The combination aims to balance efficacy with reduced toxicity compared to cisplatin-based regimens[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
