Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sionac is an ophthalmic lubricant and antioxidant combination eye drop formulated to relieve dry eyes, ocular irritation, and protect eye tissues from oxidative stress. It contains carboxymethylcellulose sodium (0.3% w/v), glycerin (1% w/v), and N-acetylcarnosine (1% w/v). Carboxymethylcellulose sodium and glycerin act as artificial tears and humectants, providing immediate lubrication, stabilizing the tear film, and protecting the corneal epithelium from hyperosmolar injury. N-acetylcarnosine is a dipeptide antioxidant that penetrates the cornea to neutralize free radicals, helping to protect ocular tissues from oxidative damage and potentially slowing the progression of age-related cataracts. Sionac is marketed by Soviet Pharmaceuticals for the management of dry eye syndrome and overall ocular surface health.
