Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Soma-Dol is a fixed-dose combination drug product developed by Next Gen Pharma India, specifically formulated for the management of acute musculoskeletal pain associated with conditions such as strains and sprains. It combines two active pharmaceutical ingredients: carisoprodol and tapentadol. Carisoprodol is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant that is metabolized into meprobamate; it is believed to exert its effects by modulating GABA-A receptors in the central nervous system, leading to sedation and the interruption of pain reflexes. Tapentadol is a centrally acting analgesic with a dual mechanism of action, functioning as both a mu-opioid receptor agonist and a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (NRI). This combination provides a synergistic approach to pain management by addressing both the muscle spasms and the neurological transmission of pain signals.
