Overview

Carmustine + cisplatin + etoposide is a combination chemotherapy regimen used primarily as high-dose conditioning therapy before autologous stem cell or bone marrow transplantation, particularly in patients with relapsed or refractory non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Hodgkin's disease. The regimen may be referred to as "BEP" (bischloroethylnitrosourea [carmustine], etoposide, and Platinol [cisplatin]). Each component has a distinct mechanism of action: - Carmustine is an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA and RNA, inhibiting replication and transcription. - Cisplatin is a platinum-based compound that forms DNA adducts, leading to apoptosis. - Etoposide inhibits topoisomerase II, causing DNA strand breaks. This combination exploits synergistic cytotoxic effects on malignant cells. It is most commonly used in the context of hematologic malignancies for patients undergoing autologous transplantation[1][2][4].
