Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of carmustine (BCNU), cyclophosphamide, and etoposide (VP16-213). It is commonly referred to as the "CBV" regimen. The combination is used primarily as high-dose conditioning therapy prior to autologous stem cell or bone marrow transplantation in patients with relapsed or refractory Hodgkin's disease and other lymphoid malignancies. - **Carmustine** is an alkylating agent that cross-links DNA and RNA, inhibiting DNA replication and transcription. - **Cyclophosphamide** is also an alkylating agent that interferes with DNA replication by forming cross-links in DNA strands. - **Etoposide** inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to breaks in double-stranded DNA during the S and G2 phases of the cell cycle, resulting in apoptosis of rapidly dividing cells[1][2]. The CBV regimen has been shown to produce durable remissions in a significant proportion of patients who have failed previous chemotherapy regimens for Hodgkin's disease[1][2].
