Carmustine + procarbazine is a combination of two alkylating agents used in chemotherapy, primarily for the treatment of malignant gliomas and other brain tumors. Carmustine (also known as BCNU) acts by cross-linking DNA and RNA, thereby inhibiting DNA synthesis, RNA production, and protein synthesis. It also carbamoylates glutathione reductase, contributing to cell death[3]. Procarbazine is an antineoplastic agent that works by inhibiting DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis through alkylation after metabolic activation[5]. This combination has been studied both as part of multi-drug regimens (such as with vincristine in the PCV protocol) and alone for recurrent or progressive glioblastoma multiforme[1][8]. Both drugs are small molecules administered systemically.
