Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Carvedilol + simvastatin is a combination therapy that pairs two medications with complementary cardiovascular benefits. Carvedilol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic antagonist with additional alpha-1 blocking properties, used to treat heart failure, left ventricular dysfunction, and hypertension. Simvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that reduces cholesterol production in the liver, treating hyperlipidemia and reducing cardiovascular risk. Studies have shown that this combination therapy may have additive beneficial effects on cardiovascular outcomes, particularly in patients with left ventricular dysfunction after myocardial infarction. The combination has demonstrated improved survival rates, reduced major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), and enhanced portal pressure reduction in patients with liver cirrhosis compared to monotherapy with either agent.
