Overview

Casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) is a remineralizing dental treatment derived from milk casein. The casein phosphopeptides (CPP) stabilize high concentrations of calcium and phosphate ions in an amorphous, non-crystalline state (ACP), creating a reservoir of bioavailable minerals. When applied topically to teeth, CPP-ACP binds to dental biofilm and enamel, maintaining a supersaturated environment that promotes the remineralization of subsurface enamel lesions and inhibits demineralization. It is widely used to treat white spot lesions, particularly those occurring after orthodontic therapy, and to manage dentin hypersensitivity. The technology was originally developed at the University of Melbourne and is marketed under the trade name Recaldent.
