Cat epithelial allergenic extract (Laboratorios Leti)

Cat epithelial allergenic extract (Laboratorios Leti) refers to a range of biological preparations derived from cat epithelium used for the diagnosis and treatment of cat allergy. These extracts contain major and minor allergens, most notably Fel d 1, along with Fel d 2, Fel d 3, Fel d 4, and Fel d 7. Laboratorios Leti has developed specific formulations including native, depigmented, and depigmented polymerized (allergoid) extracts. The depigmented polymerized version is manufactured through a process involving mild acid treatment followed by glutaraldehyde polymerization, which reduces its allergenicity (IgE binding) while maintaining its immunogenicity. In diagnostic skin prick tests, these extracts are used to confirm sensitization by triggering a localized wheal-and-flare reaction through IgE-mediated mast cell degranulation. Therapeutically, they are used in subcutaneous allergen immunotherapy (SCIT) to induce immunological tolerance in patients with allergic rhinitis, rhinoconjunctivitis, or asthma.
