Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CAT-SchA@SCM is a biomimetic nanoparticle drug delivery system designed to ameliorate cytoxan (cyclophosphamide)-induced testicular injury and preserve male fertility. Developed by researchers at Nanjing University and Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, the system consists of catalase (CAT) protein nanoparticles loaded with schisandrin A (SchA), a bioactive compound derived from *Schisandra chinensis* that mimics superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. To overcome the blood-testis barrier (BTB) and enable targeted delivery, the nanoparticles are encapsulated in TM4 (Sertoli-like) cell membranes (SCM). CAT-SchA@SCM acts by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), inhibiting apoptosis, and activating the Nrf2-HO-1 antioxidant signaling pathway, thereby protecting Sertoli cells and restoring testicular function, sperm motility, and testosterone levels.
