Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Catumaxomab + prednisolone is a combination therapy involving catumaxomab, a trifunctional bispecific monoclonal antibody that targets EpCAM-expressing tumor cells and CD3 on T cells, and prednisolone, a synthetic glucocorticoid used here as a premedication to potentially reduce catumaxomab-induced adverse reactions. Catumaxomab recruits and activates T cells and accessory immune cells at the tumor site, facilitating immune-mediated destruction of cancer cells, particularly in malignant ascites secondary to epithelial tumors. The combination has been studied for intraperitoneal administration, with prednisolone given prior to each catumaxomab dose to mitigate cytokine-related side effects such as fever, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Clinical studies indicate that prednisolone premedication does not significantly alter the safety or efficacy profile of catumaxomab[1][3][5][7].
