CBT-1 + paclitaxel is a combination therapy consisting of CBT-1, an orally administered bisbenzylisoquinoline P-glycoprotein (Pgp/MDR1/ABCB1) inhibitor, and paclitaxel, a taxoid chemotherapeutic agent. CBT-1 works by inhibiting Pgp-mediated drug efflux, a mechanism that cancer cells often use to develop resistance to chemotherapy drugs. Paclitaxel works by damaging the structure or "skeleton" that supports cancer cells, preventing them from growing and dividing. The combination aims to overcome drug resistance in cancer cells by inhibiting the Pgp efflux pump with CBT-1, potentially allowing paclitaxel to accumulate in cancer cells at higher concentrations and improve its efficacy.
