Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CBT-201 is an engineered bacterial therapeutic being developed by CommBio Therapeutics for the management of hangovers and alcohol-related health issues. The drug consists of a live bacterial strain genetically modified to target and metabolize acetaldehyde, a toxic intermediate of alcohol metabolism that is primarily responsible for the physiological symptoms of a hangover and long-term alcohol-induced tissue damage. By degrading acetaldehyde within the gastrointestinal tract, CBT-201 aims to reduce the systemic absorption and overall burden of this toxin. The program has successfully completed the strain optimization phase and is currently progressing through IND-enabling studies.
