Overview

This autologous cell therapy, developed by the Royan Institute, consists of CD133-positive enriched bone marrow-derived progenitor cells for the treatment of cerebral palsy. The cells are harvested from the patient's posterior iliac crest and enriched using magnetic cell separation (CliniMACS) to a purity of 57-83%. Administered via intrathecal injection, these hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells are thought to exert therapeutic effects through paracrine signaling, anti-inflammatory actions, and immune modulation, rather than direct replacement of damaged neurons. Clinical evaluation has focused on children with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy to assess safety and functional improvement.
