CD19 Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells developed by National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) is an autologous cell therapy designed for the treatment of B-cell malignancies. The therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a chimeric antigen receptor that specifically targets the CD19 antigen, a protein widely expressed on the surface of both normal and malignant B cells. The manufacturing process utilizes the Miltenyi Biotec CliniMACS Prodigy system, an automated platform for cell processing and expansion. Following a lymphodepletion chemotherapy regimen, the modified T cells are infused back into the patient, where they recognize and eliminate CD19-positive tumor cells through cell-mediated cytotoxicity. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial for children and adults with relapsed or refractory B-cell malignancies, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
