Overview

CD19 CAR-T cells (Zhejiang University) is an investigational autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy being developed by Zhejiang University for the treatment of refractory myasthenia gravis (MG). The therapy involves the genetic modification of a patient's own T cells to express a CAR that specifically recognizes and binds to the CD19 antigen expressed on the surface of B cells. In the context of myasthenia gravis, B cells are responsible for the production of pathogenic autoantibodies, such as those targeting the acetylcholine receptor (AChR), which interfere with neuromuscular transmission at the motor endplate. By specifically depleting these CD19-positive B cell populations, the therapy aims to eliminate the source of autoantibodies and provide a durable clinical response in patients who have failed standard-of-care immunosuppressive treatments. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial (NCT05828225) to assess safety, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary efficacy in AChR-antibody-positive patients.
